Undergraduate academic studies in Business informatics

Structure of the curriculum

Undergraduate study programme in Business Informatics lasts four years (8 semesters), and consists of 240ECTS in the field of humanities, resulting in a Bachelor of Business informatics degree.

By completing this study programme, the student acquires knowledge and skills from an interdisciplinary field that combines informatics, management and business economics, which are extremely important for the realization of current global trends in digitalization of society and business. The acquired knowledge also represents a good basis for further professional and scientific training.

Enrollment of candidates is based on the Competition announced by the University of Kragujevac and conducted by the Faculty of Economics. In order for a candidate to apply for admission to the first year of study, he must have completed a four-year high school education and pass the entrance exam (testing knowledge). The final ranking list for enrollment in the first year of study is formed on the basis of the general success achieved in secondary education over a four-year period and the results of the entrance exam, and, if necessary, on the basis of success at national and international competitions, in accordance with the general act Faculty.


The number of students enrolled in this study program is proposed by the Faculty. The Government of the Republic of Serbia determines the number of students who will be financed from the budget, that is, the number of those who will be self-financed. The order of candidates for enrollment is determined based on the final ranking list.

Undergraduate academic studies are in accordance with the Bologna Declaration (they last 4 years, 8 semesters, 240 ECTS). The study program includes compulsory and optional areas of student education and consists of academic-general education (AO), theoretical-methodological (TM), scientific-professional (NS) and professional-applicative (SA) courses, necessary for a general education of a business informatics specialist. The study program is implemented through lectures (p), exercises (v) and other forms of active teaching (don).

Teaching is organized by semesters. Each course lasts one semester. Studies are realized in the Serbian language. Courses are divided into compulsory and optional. The student chooses one course from each group of elective courses, so that the total number of ECTS points in the academic year is at least 60.

Exams and evaluation of students are carried out in the manner and according to the procedure established by the general act of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Kragujevac. A student who has not successfully mastered a compulsory course, in the following school year, enrolls (takes and passes) the same s course. A student who has not successfully mastered an elective course, in the following school year, can re-enroll in it, or opt for another elective course.

A student can transfer to this study program from other study programs of the same or related fields, if he has passed the exams corresponding to this study program and if he has achieved the required number of ECTS points for enrollment in the corresponding year.

 

The purpose of this study programme

The purpose of the Business Informatics study program is the education of business informatics specialists who will possess interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge and skills in informatics and business economics and management, which are needed for: 1) successful business of IT companies, especially in the area of ​​realization of business ideas (software solutions), project management, communication with clients, etc. and 2) digitalization of the operations of companies and institutions of the public sector by introducing and managing appropriate software solutions to support operations and management.

The study program is aligned with the development strategy of the Faculty of Economics of the University in Kragujevac, which includes the modernization of curricula in accordance with current national and global technological trends. The study program has clear and recognizable purposes and social roles:

  • education of a business informatics specialist who will work on software development and participate in the process of designing, developing, testing and implementing software solutions;
  • education of a business informatics specialist who will work as a consultant for business software solutions and who will participate in the selection and introduction, modification and administration of business software solutions in companies and public institutions;
  • education of a business informatics specialist who will work as a system analyst and participate in the process of analysis, design and revision of business processes in order to improve and modernize operations in companies and public institutions;
  • education of a business informatics specialist who will work on management support tasks in the decision-making process using modern systems for business analytics;
  • education of a business informatics specialist who will be capable of independent performance on the market - an entrepreneur in the field of information technologies.

Within the Quality Assurance Strategy, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Kragujevac has defined basic tasks and objectives, with which the purpose of the Business Informatics study program is fully aligned.

 

Objectives of the this study programme

The objectives of the Business Informatics study program are:

  • training student for practical work in the development of software solutions, from market research to design, development and testing to the implementation of software solutions;
  • training student for practical work as IT project manager;
  • training student for practical work as a consultant for business software solutions (integrated information systems - ERP);
  • training student for practical work as a business analyst and business data analyst;
  • training student for practical work in system analyst jobs;
  • training student for independent performance on the market - IT entrepreneurship;
  • developing student's awareness of the necessity of permanent education, the development of society as a whole;
  • providing academic education that goes beyond a narrow professional framework and develops awareness of the values ​​of modern society.

The stated objectives are achieved through:

  • acquiring knowledge in the field of software development and information systems;
  • familiarization with existing commercial and free software solutions for integrated information systems, for database management, for business analytics, for project management, for market research and marketing;
  • acquiring knowledge in the field of business economics;
  • implementation of professional practices in companies from the IT industry;
  • encouraging communication and teamwork.

 

Competencies acquired within this study programme

By completing the Business Informatics study program, the student acquires general and subject-specific abilities that are in the function of quality performance of professional, scientific and artistic activities.

By completing this study program, the student acquires the following general abilities:

  • ability to monitor and apply modern IT developments and achievements;

By mastering this study program, the student acquires the following subject-specific abilities:

  • knowledge of the software development process and information systems;
  • knowledge and use of existing commercial and free software solutions to support different areas of business;
  • knowledge and use of database management systems;
  • ability to manage IT projects;
  • ability to realize IT business ideas, from creation and market testing to their implementation
  • ability to solve problems in the field of business economics: entrepreneurship, management, marketing, market research...;
  • ability to successfully continue education at master academic studies in business informatics and related fields.
